Assessment of the weir in Beihingen on the Neckar river / Germany
Weir in Beihingen on the Neckar river
DESCPRIPTION OF PROJECT
The weir of Beihingen is situated at km 154.34 of the Neckar river, about 100 m downstream from the river branch of Pleidelsheim. It was built between 1913 and 1915 in the course of the construction of the Pleidelsheim power plant and its appurtenant supply channel. The weir has 4 openings that are equipped with movable closure devices. Because of its long service life, different structural defects were found on the concrete and steel structures of the weir.
The consultant was charged with the elaboration of an expert report on the overhaul and/or replacement of the weir in consideration of hydraulic engineering, ecological and economic aspects.
This report includes hydraulic calculations for the determination of the efficiency of the existing weir as well as of the replacement variants to be investigated, the investigation of different sites worth considering for the installation of a new weir and the development of an operational plan for the realisation of the envisaged works.
