Sewer rehabilitation in the urban district Bachstraßenviertel in Leipzig / Germany
Sewer in Leipzig
Sewer in Leipzig
DESCPRIPTION OF PROJECT
On behalf of the municipal water utility of Leipzig (KWL), the combined brick sewers in the district "Bachstraßenviertel" that shall partly serve as storage sewers after the launching of a sewer network control system, should be rehabilitated.

The invert consists of half-round sections or ground slabs made of vitrified clay with berms on both sides. These berms are tiled with yellow split tiles. The channels are around 100 years old. The following aspects have to be observed during the rehabilitation works:
  • Assurance of water tightness
  • Long-term resistance against municipal wastewater and biogenic sulphuric acid corrosion in the sewer atmosphere
  • Resistance to abrasion
  • Resistance to jet cleaning devices
  • The sewer diameters should not be substantially reduced as the channels are used at full hydraulic capacity.
The project comprised the following main services:
  • Rehabilitation of the egg-shaped combined brick sewers DN 850/1,300 and the appurtenant manholes
  • Incorporation of inspection chambers in the covered connecting structures.
PROJECT COMPONENTS AND
TECHNICAL DATA
  • Total length of rehabilitated sewers = 785 m
