DESCPRIPTION OF PROJECT
The city of Freiburg intends to build a community centre on the 'Berliner Allee'. The planned complex of buildings shall comprise supermarkets, numerous retail stores, service shops and apartments. A 6-storey car park with 750 parking lots shall hold the cars of employees, customers, visitors and residents. The additional traffic will thus lead to an increased air pollution load in the area.

On the basis of traffic surveys and forecasts, the concentration of air pollutants was determined. The concen­trations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2), benzol (C6H6), sulphur dioxide (SO2), carbon monoxide (CO) and PM10 (particles smaller than 10 microns) were estab­lished by means of the 3-dimensional dispersion model MISKAM (Microscale Flow and Dispersion Model).

Based on traffic loads, types of vehicles, driving behaviour and emission factors of the different vehicle categories, the air pollution loads in the investigation area were estimated and compared against the limit values fixed in the Federal Immission Control Ordinance (BlmSchV). The concentrations of air pollutants were displayed in contour maps.
