Restoration of the river Schebichbach / Germany
Culverted stream under agricultural grassland
Culverted stream under agricultural grassland
DESCPRIPTION OF PROJECT
The watercourse "Schebichbach" is located in a nature reserve near the municipality of Sohland/Spree on the southern border of the Czech Republic.

In the section concerned by this project, the year-round water carrying watercourse was culverted. It had to be "daylighted" through environmentally compatible measures approved by the competent nature conservation organisations and was to be restored as a natural watercourse in adaptation to the given topography.

At the same time, the adjoining grasslands were to be transformed to serve extensive cultivation purposes. Furthermore, the riverbanks were to be planted with appropriate plants such as alders, ash trees and different shrub species that shall provide shade to the water body and shall protect it against water pollutants from the adjoining farmland.
