DESCPRIPTION OF PROJECT
Technical Assistance to the National Water Authority ONEP, mainly in programme co-ordination, the monitoring and control of the various studies and the supervision of implementation of public standpipes in the individual rural settlements. The Consultant's tasks included in particular the selection of eligible settlements for the programme, the implementation of awareness building campaigns for the target groups and the verification and approval of the design work (preliminary and final) undertaken by consulting engineers or Water Authority staff. He furthermore provided assistance in the final handing over of the completed works and advised the Water Authority in operating the public standpipes during the first years of service. He checked the supply rate at the public taps, the daily per capita consumption and the various network efficiencies. Further tasks included the evaluation of the public taps and distribution network management and the preparation of complementary studies and strategic papers in the engineering and sensitisation sectors.
