DESCPRIPTION OF PROJECT
For either of the towns of San Luis Talpa (3,400 inh.) and San Juan Opico (13,500 inh.), we were in charge of the design, tendering and construction supervision of a wastewater treatment plant using trickling filters.

The main components of the sewage treatment plants include: grit chamber, primary settling, trickling filter and final settling. The separate sludge treatment takes place in a digester followed by drying beds. Treatment by trickling filtration is a largely fail-safe procedure which will maintain the plant's purifying level sufficiently high even in case of plant operating errors or after an accidental input of toxic matter into the sewer system.

In principle, the plants are fed via gravity lines as far as the local topography so allows. Additional energy supplies will then be needed only for the recirculation process, so that an almost complete treatment can be guaranteed even in case of power breakdowns.
PROJECT COMPONENTS AND
TECHNICAL DATA
  • 2 Trickling filter plants with grit chamber, primary settling and final settling for 3,500 and 13,500 p.e., respectively
  • Sludge treatment in digester tanks and drying beds
  • Sewage generally conveyed to the WWTP via gravity lines
  • Length of sewer system: 1,000 to 3,000 m
