DESCPRIPTION OF PROJECT
The Client envisages the construction of a hydroelectric power plant at a weir on the river Dreisam in Freiburg. For economic and ecological reasons the plant shall be driven by a hydrodynamic screw, also known as "Archimedean screw".

In order to improve the migration possibilities for fish and other aquatic organisms, the existing weir is converted into a bed ramp with coarse surface and integrated fish pass. The upstream and downstream migration of fish and even microorganisms is thus assured.
PROJECT COMPONENTS AND
TECHNICAL DATA
  • Hydrodynamic screw (Ø 3.10 m, length: 8.50 m, installation angle: ~ 22°)
  • Net head: ~ 3 m
  • Design discharge: 4 m³/s
  • The hydrodynamic screw works at 10-23 r/min (variable)
  • Electrical power: 85-90 kW
  • Design output per annum:
    ~ 300,000 kWh
  • Length of the coarse bed ramp: 58 m
  • Height difference of approximately 3.25 m
  • Ramp slope: 1:18 (55 ‰)
  • Design flood discharge:
    HQ100 = 167 m³/s
