DESCPRIPTION OF PROJECT
The Energiedienst Holding AG commissioned the construction of a hydroelectric power plant at the existing weir in Hausen including the creation of migration possibilities for fish and other aquatic organisms. To this end, different variants of hydropower systems were to be studied and evaluated with regard to their technical and economical advantages and disadvantages.

The study of variants showed that all analysed hydropower systems are feasible but depending on the investment needs lead to different economic results. Cost estimates for all possible solutions (hydrodynamic screw, S-type Kaplan turbine, solution with one or two machines) formed the basis for decision-making in the further course of the project.

The Consultant evaluated different near-nature and technical solutions for the restoration of migration possibilities for fish and other aquatic organisms. The construction of a naturally designed by-pass channel turned out to be the best solution with regard to ecological and economic reasons.

In the course of the basic data survey, the complete project area was surveyed. On the site of the planned power plant, geotechnical investigations were carried out. 2-dimensional water level calculations considering the conditions before and after the implementation of works showed the relevance of flood safety as well as the importance of a streamlined design of the plant's in- and outlet structures.
