Rehabilitation of the port of Acajutla / El Salvador
Rehabilitation of the port of Acajutla
Rehabilitation of the port of Acajutla
DESCPRIPTION OF PROJECT
After 30 years of operation, the facilities of the port of Acajutla situated on the Pacific Ocean had deteriorated to such an extent that the operation of the port and the access to the quays were seriously endangered. Besides, it was deemed necessary to modernise the entire port installations and to install additional port handling facilities. Once a detailed maintenance concept had been worked out, multifarious rehabilitation and extension measures were developed to final design level and subdivided into 7 lots. Tenders were launched for these lots and subsequently the construction work was supervised. In addition, a study was conducted with the aim of developing concepts for improving port operations and the financial and administrative organisation of the port as well as a concept for a possible privatisation of certain parts of the port.
