DESCPRIPTION OF PROJECT Owing to the extension of the river Rhine, the flood protection situation near the city of Iffezheim had considerably deteriorated. Within the scope of the Integrated Rhine Programme (IRP), flood protection was thus to be improved by the construction of flood control reservoirs including the reservoir at the estuary of the river Elz, which is the subject of this project. A total retention volume of 5.3 million m³ was to be created.In addition to the works on the structures for the flood control reservoir itself, the existing main dams of the river Rhine had to be adapted accordingly. On the basis of the official approval design prepared by the responsible Water Bodies Directory, the Consultant prepared the design for the rehabilitation of a section of the main dam of the river Rhine, the construction of dam service roads and passages, the rehabilitation of the inlet sluice of a small stream near Ottersheim as well as the section-wise relocation of this stream.
