Technical Assistance and Supervision of Solid Waste Management Project in Konya, Turkey
Turkey is making an effort to promote domestic environmental protection and in doing so to comply with the European Directives on waste. In this context, a modern sanitary landfill with pilot composting plant, a solid waste sorting plant as well as several transfer stations was constructed in the area of Konya. Parallel to the construction measures, extensive training programs were carried out to instruct the technical and administrative personnel of the public administration and the waste treatment plant in all aspects of waste management. Fichtner Water & Transportation were charged with the construction supervision and the execution of the training measures.

- Landfill site: 172 ha
- Total storage capacity of the landfill: 12.3 million m³
- This contract covers lots 1 and 2 with a total capacity of 3.1 million m³, incl. leachate collection and treatment
- Pilot composting plant: 5,000 t/y
- Waste sorting plant: 5,000 t/y
- Rehabilitation and closure of the remaining two sections of the existing dump site: ~ 150,000 m², incl. gas collection and leachate recirculation
