Rehabilitation of the Coal Mine Complex in Mostar for the Reduction of CO2 Emissions by Coal Seam Fires, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Rehabilitation of the Coal Mine Complex in Mostar for the Reduction of CO2 Emissions by Coal Seam Fires, Bosnia and Herzegovina

The area of the former coal mine complex Vihovici in Mostar required ecological remediation measures. In addition to sustainably prevent coal seam fires to reduce CO2 emissions, the steep cliffs of the former open pit had to be stabilised to prevent landslides. The measure aimed at sealing sensible land areas with vegetation soils to minimise the input of air oxygen into the underground and thus reduce the potential for self-ignition in the coal seams.
